Dave Garvin

I had the pleasure to sit and chat Dave Garvin. Dave and I were college roommates and wrestling teammates. The year prior to us meeting across the country in British Columbia in 1993, Dave and I marched in the athlete parade for the provincial wrestling finals. I was in front of him at 77 kilograms and he behind me at 84 kilograms. We did not know each other then. We both ended up with silver medals – ironically beaten by guys from the same high school. There’s a picture somewhere in circulation of the march in. Dave might have it. We talk about sport, life, firefighting, and everything between.

Dave is a former freestyle and Greco Canadian National wrestling champion. He played junior A and senior A lacrosse as an enforcer. He’s a former and current rugby enthusiast. Dave is the former wrestling coach to The Ultimate Fighter winner and the therapeutic use for exemption of medical marijuana in sport pioneer Elias Theodorou who has recently passed away. Dave is a full-time firefighter with the city of Guelph. He’s a husband to wife Mandy for 21 years and he is a proud father of two strong, confident young men.
